GTCC Deputy Executive Director Mr. Marius Mehner and GTCC member STARTEAM Global Germany GmbH, represented by General Manager Mr. Peter Metzger, attended ASEAN Conference on “30 Reasons for ASEAN” at IHK Hannover on Friday May 12th, along with representatives from other German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs) from Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam, and their members.

During the day the representatives from the Chambers of Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand were each invited to present 5 reasons to start business in their countries. Every Chamber assigned one company to share the experiences in the new market so far, the German-Thai Chamber in Bangkok invited us to present STARTEAM and how we manage our project in Thailand.

We were the only company being present on site, which was highly appreciated from the IHK.

Being assigned from the German-Thai Chamber for this task after roughly only 7 months of relationship is a strong message regarding our professional approach to enter the market.

The participants were very impressed about our agility and the strong teamwork throughout the whole STARTEAM organization to make this project successful.

After our growth in Europe, our expansion into Asia, the acquisition of our factory JST and the integration of CIA, we are proud to take the next step: as of September 1st, 2022, we are unifying all our entities worldwide under STARTEAM GLOBAL.

Why go through this major change? As a company, we have always put our customers’ needs at the center of what we do. Unification under the new STARTEAM GLOBAL structure, enables us to make our processes leaner and solidify our global status as manufacturer. All these changes aim to benefit our customers and make their experience with us even more delighting.

Our products, services, personnel, and locations will remain unchanged. And as we remain the same at our core, we continue to evolve, by constantly looking to improve ourselves and upgrade where we can. Therefore, we feel this change is necessary, to truly usher us from PCB solutions into PCB manufacturing.

To ensure we exceed manufacturing, we provide competitive offers through our factory JST. At the same time, we continue to offer a variety of PCB and Custom Product solutions through joint ventures and our partner factories, as we believe that this combination of services will be very important to navigate this everchanging market with flexibility being so vital.

Another driving factor for this change is unity. Over the past decade we have grown immensely, as a result some of us have been working together under different legal names, so to solidify our unity we decided to put all entities under the same roof. We also took this opportunity to rewrite our Mission, Vision, and Values, to properly reflect who we are now and what we stand for in the future.

Soon, we will reveal our new logo, website, and corporate video leading up to September 1st. This is something that we have been working on the past year and we are extremely excited to share our new branding and look with the world.

Industries have evolved for the past centuries, and as we are now fully emerged into the era of Industry 4.0, we are constantly looking for ways in which we can advance our production practices and stay ahead of the curb. One mindset that we are in the process of adapting is intelligent manufacturing. But what does it mean to manufacture intelligently? To put it short, to achieve this standard, factories must combine intelligent sensors, analytical technology, and artificial intelligence to monitor operations and potential disruptions in real time, as to keep production running at the optimal level. By implementing intelligent manufacturing, we are staying in line with STARTEAM GLOBAL’s goal for 2022 – ONETOUCH, which is made possible by automation paired with optimization and integration.

Since starting this project, we have been able to see the status of all factory equipment in real time through a live platform which can be viewed remotely. This is made possible through its implementation into our ERP system and our data output interface. By analyzing a machines production numbers, we can set the optimal parameters for the board in question, and as a result avoid any production issues, thus leading to a higher efficiency.

We have preliminarily implemented intelligent manufacturing in our drilling and routing processes, and the parameters are easily viewed by scanning a QR code in an app linked to the machine. From there transferring and reading parameters are conveniently done.

The plan in the near future is to fully integrate all of STARTEAM Electronics’ equipment into the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) to realize the visualization and control of the production process, as well as instilling more traceability within each production process. We are looking forward to continuing investing and improving our manufacturing habits to be an agile manufacturer.

As a German family business with experience in the PCB industry since 1988 we are still experiencing growth periods in 2022. The key cornerstone for our strategy is STARTEAM GLOBAL, our factory in Sichuan which we acquired in 2017. We have been continuously increasing the output from 250,000sqf per month at the beginning to having reached 520,000sqf in Q4 last year. In 2021, further advancements were made promising a bright future for the factory.

On the technical side we have continued investing into necessary machineries to cope with the growing demand. We’ve added a total of 4 laser routing and 300T punching machines which allowed us to grow our IMS boards capacity by threefold. Alongside allowing us to deal with a higher order volume it allows us to achieve a +/- 0.05mm tolerance, something which gives us a further technical advantage.

Since about 70% of our orders come from the automotive industry we vigorously continue to follow and implement the necessary “0ppm Strategy”. Especially our Japanese customers enable us to fully motivate our team to reach outstanding quality standards, led by our German General Manager. This results in an excellent quality level. Besides having done a plethora of trainings for our staff, it was important to also invest in new machinery, and we have done exactly this. The machinery installed consists of an on-line AOI, two AVI with fully integrated AI, a state-of-the-art dimension measurement device and an additional hole checker. All these investments in “Man and Machine” have brought into the “single digit ppm” area. As always with investments in quality, other short-term optimizations automatically develop in production like lower production costs, something our customers profit from.

In the fall of last year, we were able to open our new material warehouse and our Material Resource Planning was implemented in our ERP system. We have 2,500sqm of storage space in which we can fit 300,000 sheets of base material. With the integrated software we can guarantee the most accurate FIFO control and ensure the quality of our raw materials and optimal inventory turnover.

We have also made good headway on our goal to become a ‘Green Factory’ by installing solar panels on our newly built material warehouse. While the amount of energy generated certainly won’t be enough to power the whole factory, it will cover in the range of 5-10% of the factory’s consumption in the future. The 2 million RMB investment was officially activated for use on the 10th of January, and we are already reaping benefits from its presence. Besides that, we are excited to further power ourselves through hydropower. Currently we are able to power 50% of the factory through one of the local Sichuan rivers. Besides that, Sichuan is ripe for wind energy, something we are exploring to implement. A future with STARTEAM GLOBAL being a ‘Green Factory’ is looking more and more viable.

Daniel Jacob, CEO of STARTEAM GROUP, had the following to say about the factories latest achievements: “These past 12 months have been shaped by a number of new investments, from increasing our production capacity, to the continued development of our technical production feasibility we have also been able to advance in terms of sustainability, particularly when it comes to the environment. It was foreseeable that we would face challenges when the monthly delivery amount was increased by 40%, but the way our team performed month to month was truly impressive. Besides integrating additional 80 new team members we were also able to improve our delivery reliability to an on-time rate of 94,6%.

We were also pleased to see how things are advancing in cost-engineering. It was very gratifying seeing how our customers accepted our new punching process for our aluminum project – not only were we able to reduce the lead time for these projects, but we were also able to offer a price reduction.

We are especially proud of the integration of our brand-new solar panels that we installed on the top of our new material warehouse in the Fall of 2021. We have finally been able to activate them at the end of January and the pairing of hydropower along with solar energy gives us an important sustainability benchmark. This proves to be another important puzzle piece on the journey to achieve carbon neutrality over the coming years.”

We have described all the new advancements but why not have a look for yourselves? Travels to China are still complicated at the moment, but we invite you to join us on a Virtual Reality Line Tour of the factory with all mentioned upgrades already live – contact us now to make an appointment for your VR Line Tour by emailing sales@starteam.global
